The Wilton community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a 13-year-old girl whose death is currently being investigated by Wilton Police as a possible suicide. The tragic incident, confirmed Wednesday afternoon, has left classmates, teachers, family members, and residents across the community grieving the sudden loss of a young life taken far too soon.
According to a statement released by Public Information Officer Anna Tornello, Wilton Police are working alongside the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as the investigation continues. Authorities emphasized that no additional details would be released out of respect for the family’s privacy during this deeply painful time.
“Our hearts are with the family, friends, classmates and all those affected,” Tornello stated. “We ask that the family be given privacy and support as they grieve this tragic loss.”
Wilton Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Smith also shared a message with district families and staff confirming the death of an eighth-grade student. In his statement, Smith described the loss as “profound sadness that no school leader or parent ever wishes to deliver,” while extending condolences on behalf of the Board of Education, faculty, staff, and the entire school community.
Counseling and emotional support services have been made available throughout the district for students, staff, and families impacted by the tragedy. School officials also announced a community Zoom discussion led by Dr. Andrew Gerber of Silver Hill Hospital to help families navigate conversations surrounding grief and emotional well-being.
Community leaders are urging residents to avoid speculation and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media while the investigation remains ongoing. Officials are also encouraging parents and guardians to maintain open conversations with children and remain attentive to signs of emotional distress.
The Wilton community now joins together in mourning, remembrance, and support for all those affected by this devastating loss.
