Calgary CTrain Collision Today – Unidentified Man Critically Injured After CTrain Collision

A serious incident involving Calgary’s CTrain occurred on Thursday evening in downtown Calgary, leaving a man in his 60s in life-threatening condition and prompting an active police investigation.

According to authorities, the collision took place at approximately 5:20 p.m. on May 21, 2026, near the intersection of Centre Street and Seventh Avenue South, a heavily trafficked area within the city’s central transit network. Investigators report that the man was walking southbound when he entered the path of an oncoming CTrain. The train, which was proceeding through the intersection on a green signal, was unable to stop in time and struck the pedestrian.

Emergency services responded immediately. Firefighters and paramedics worked urgently at the scene to extricate the man after he became pinned beneath the train. Once freed, he was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officials have not yet released any update on his current condition.

The Calgary Police Service confirmed that preliminary findings do not indicate speed or impairment as contributing factors in the incident. However, the exact circumstances that led the pedestrian into the train’s path remain under active investigation.

The collision caused significant disruption to downtown transit operations, with temporary suspension and delays across portions of the CTrain network while emergency crews secured the area and investigators documented the scene. Transit authorities later restored service once the area was deemed safe.

This stretch of downtown Calgary is known for dense pedestrian traffic and frequent rail crossings, particularly during peak commuting hours. While such incidents are uncommon, authorities note they can result in severe injuries due to the size and limited stopping distance of rail vehicles.

Police are appealing for witnesses and reviewing nearby surveillance and transit camera footage as part of the ongoing investigation. Further updates are expected as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events.
