It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Polefrone, age 26, who died on May 2, 2026, in Washington, D.C. A remarkable young man, David’s life was defined by curiosity, generosity, and an enduring dedication to those he loved. His loss is deeply felt, but the impact of his life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Born in South Carolina to Amy and Phillip Polefrone, David displayed a thirst for knowledge and a compassionate heart from an early age. He pursued higher education at the University of Maryland, earning honors in economics and chemistry while actively contributing to Student Government, parliamentary debate, and the Omicron Delta Kappa society. Known for his leadership, intellect, and warmth, David was widely admired by peers and professors alike.
Continuing his academic journey at the University of Pennsylvania, David earned a Master’s in Organic Chemistry, combining a love of science with relentless curiosity. Most recently, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he embarked on a promising career in data science, eager to apply his talents to meaningful projects and make a positive difference in the world.
Beyond professional and academic achievements, David’s true gift was his kindness. Family and friends remember his generous spirit, big hugs, engaging conversations, and the ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. He is survived by his parents, Amy and Phillip, his sister Joy and brother-in-law Nick, grandparents Jim and Judy, and numerous extended family members. He now joins his grandparents Joe and Mae, among other loved ones.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 5, 2026, at Naples United Church of Christ in Naples, Florida, with a later service planned in Ellicott City, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to organizations close to David’s heart.
