Laveen Fire Today – Multiple Mobile Homes Burn at 40th and Southern Avenues, Phoenix Crews Battle Blaze, 7 Displaced.

Laveen, located in Maricopa County, Arizona, is currently the site of an active structure fire after firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke and visible flames earlier today. Authorities say the incident involves a large fire affecting multiple mobile homes and has already caused significant property damage, displacing seven residents.

The fire was reported at approximately 1:06 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, when residents in the area near 40th and Southern Avenues contacted emergency services after noticing smoke rising from a structure. Fire crews from the Phoenix Fire Department, along with assisting agencies, were dispatched within minutes.

According to Phoenix Fire Captain Daniel Lee, crews arrived to find active flames spreading through a mobile home, with fire quickly extending to a nearby unit. The situation escalated rapidly, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

By the time operations were underway, about 10 fire engines had been deployed to the scene, reflecting the severity of the incident and the need for extensive resources to contain the blaze. Firefighters worked to establish control lines and prevent the fire from spreading further into surrounding homes and open land.

Officials reported that crews encountered heavy smoke upon arrival and immediately began suppression efforts using handlines while ensuring all occupants were safely evacuated. The Laveen area’s mix of residential properties and open desert terrain added to concerns about potential fire spread.

Seven people have been displaced as a result of the fire and are expected to receive temporary assistance through local support services such as the Red Cross. One individual sustained minor injuries but declined hospital treatment. No injuries to firefighters have been reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigators will assess the scene once conditions are safe, looking into possible causes such as electrical issues or accidental ignition. Fire investigation teams are expected to conduct a detailed examination, including witness interviews and scene analysis.

Laveen, a rapidly growing community within the Phoenix metropolitan area, has seen increased residential development in recent years. While the growth has brought new housing opportunities, it has also increased demands on emergency response services and heightened concerns about fire safety in mixed housing areas that include both mobile homes and newer developments.

Officials note that the area has experienced other fire incidents in recent months, underscoring ongoing concerns about fire prevention, especially as warmer weather increases risk factors across the region.
