New London High School briefly went into lockdown on Friday afternoon following reports of a possible bomb threat. The alert prompted a rapid response from the New London Police Department and school safety officials.
Officers were dispatched to the school at 20 Chester Street around 1:39 p.m. and immediately implemented lockdown procedures to ensure the safety of students and staff. Classrooms were secured while law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of the campus to check for hazardous materials or explosive devices.
After a comprehensive investigation, authorities confirmed that no explosive devices were present and no injuries occurred. Officials deemed the threat non-credible and lifted the lockdown, allowing normal school operations to resume.
Police Chief Brian M. Wright emphasized that student and staff safety is the department’s top priority. “Bomb threats are taken extremely seriously, and our officers responded promptly to ensure the campus was safe,” Wright said.
The investigation into the source of the threat remains ongoing. Authorities are seeking information from anyone who may have details regarding the incident and are accepting tips through the New London Police Department or anonymously via Tip411.
