A 17-year-old from the Laurel area, Jacob Rinier, has died following a shooting incident discovered after a vehicle crash near Seaford on the evening of May 21, 2026. Authorities have confirmed that the case is being investigated as a homicide.
According to the Delaware State Police, troopers were dispatched at approximately 8:45 p.m. to the 24000 block of German Road after reports of a traffic collision. When emergency responders arrived, they located Rinier inside the crashed vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.
Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated at the scene before the teen was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite these efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary findings from investigators suggest that the shooting may have occurred near the Concord Pond boat ramp, located less than two miles from where the vehicle was ultimately found crashed along German Road.
